FASHION
Waddle, waddle, fashion baby! The looks in Vogue and GQ may not fit your abundant frame, but here at Orbital, we're all about hogcore, bigness casual, and bariatric chic!
The mainstream fashion world has long held plus sizes contemptuously out of frame, preferring to put the slenderest of bodies front-and-center. Fat people are often left with scraps; plus-size garments tend to be some combination of ugly, overpriced, poorly crafted, and hard to find. Nonetheless, fat fashionistas have an equally long history of carving out spaces to celebrate and uplift their sense of style, from gentlemen chubs in dapper tuxedos to big-girl drag queens in glamorous gowns.
For this issue, we want to see your best fat fits! Get dolled up for a DIY fashion photoshoot and send us your favorite shots. Draw up a design for the perfect belly-accentuating garment. Write a story about a supermodel losing control. Pen an ode to the impeccable style of Jackie Gleason, André Leon Talley, or the Notorious B.I.G. Paint a vision of a gaining-themed Met Gala. Teach encouragers what to have on hand for their gainers' inevitable food stains and ripped seams. Share your experience with drag, burlesque, or cosplay. Make a moodboard for (pizza) crust punk, rockab(e)lly, dark (chocolate) academia, or an entirely new aesthetic.
Alternatively, submit a piece about what's in and out of fashion in the gainer world. Is 600 lbs truly the new 400 lbs? What happened to the gainer trends of yesteryear, like GOMAD and Engorge supplements? Is the Bierstick a passing fad, or is it here to stay? What do you think the next big thing in gaining will be?
