Orbital Issue Three: Dough

THIS IS AN OPEN CALL TO THE ARTISTS, WRITERS, AND ALL OTHER CREATIVE INDIVIDUALS WITHIN OUR GAINER-SPHERE THAT WISH TO ENGAGE IN A DIALOGUE WITH THIS ISSUE'S THEME: DOUGH

We strongly encourage artists to apply who reflect diversity and intersectionality in sexuality, gender, culture, race, size, ethnicity, class, religion, age, ability, and other dimensions of lived experience. Submissions from Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color, Trans, non-binary and other marginalized folks will be given priority.




Technical Requirements

WRITTEN

We request that all submissions be made in .doc or .docx format for ease of review (please, no PDFs). Submissions should be formatted with at least one-inch margins and sequentially numbered pages. Fiction and nonfiction should be double-spaced. Poetry should be single-spaced. 


At this point, we ask that no individual submit more than 3,000 words of continuous prose (essay, short story, how-to) or more than 5 shorter pieces (poems, flash fiction).

VISUAL (STILL)

We accept images in .JPEG, .PNG or .TIFF formats. Images should be saved in sRGB color space with low to lossless compression settings. We welcome photography, illustration, graphic narratives, comics, infographics, and data visualizations.


Please ensure that your images are exported at a generous resolution, preferably at least 2000px wide at its smallest dimension. 


Each image file should be no larger than 40mb.

VISUAL (MOVING)

For the purpose of submission review, please provide a YouTube or Vimeo link (public facing or private). Selected contributors will be asked to provide a video file in .MOV or .MP4 format with a preferred resolution of 1080p or 720p, an h.264 codex, and a bitrate of around 15.

Publication in the zine limits video submissions to 25 continuous minutes in length, but we are happy to consider longer features for additional programming. 

FILE NAMING CONVENTION

Name_Title_Number


Example: CarbLover69_Selfportrait_1of2


Name: It can either be your real name or your online pseudonym.


Title: The title of your submission.


Number: Is this piece one of many? Please indicate the order of your submissions.


• If you submit multiple pieces, we may only accept a portion


Visual artists are welcome to submit a statement describing their work (300 words max) in a text field of the submission form
